Is PDFinline free to use?
Yes. Open a PDF, edit it and download the result without an account or a card. The free plan opens files up to 50 MB and 500 pages, and nothing about that touches a server. Signing in adds cloud storage: up to 10 documents of 5 MB each, with 7 days of version history and 3 uploads a day. Larger stored files and unlimited history are part of Pro.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
Not when you edit anonymously. The file is parsed, edited and exported entirely in your browser, and a local copy is kept only on your device so you can pick up where you left off. Only when you sign in and choose to save a document is it stored in your account.
Does PDFinline really replace text, or does it draw over it?
It replaces it. The old text is removed from the page content stream and the new text is written in its place, so search, copy-paste, screen readers and automated parsers see only your edited words. Most online tools paint a white box over the old text and leave it in the file.
What happens to the fonts?
If the font is embedded in the PDF, PDFinline reuses it and rebuilds the glyph subset for your new characters. When the embedded subset is missing a glyph, or the font is not embedded at all, a metric-compatible substitute such as Liberation is used — line widths and positions stay the same, and the editor tells you which font was substituted.
Can I sign a PDF?
Yes. Draw a signature with the mouse, trackpad or a pen, type it in a handwriting font, or upload an image. Place and resize it on any page. Drawn signatures are exported as vector paths, so they stay sharp at any zoom. Signed-in users can save signatures and reuse them.
Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
If you know the password, yes. Enter it when prompted and the document opens for editing; the exported file is saved without encryption so you can share it. PDFs with permissions that forbid editing can be opened the same way.
Can I add or remove pages, or change their order?
Yes. Switch to the pages view to add blank pages, duplicate, rotate, delete or drag pages into a new order. The exported PDF keeps the new page order and every other edit you made.
Can I add a watermark?
Yes. Add a text watermark such as “DRAFT” or “CONFIDENTIAL”, choose diagonal, horizontal or vertical orientation, size, opacity and colour, and apply it to every page or a page range. It is written as real text into the PDF, not as an image.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The editor adapts to touch screens with a bottom sheet for tools and a signature pad that supports a finger or a stylus. Very large documents are quicker on a desktop browser.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
Scanned pages are images, so their text cannot be edited directly. You can still sign, annotate, add text boxes, images and watermarks, and manage pages. Text recognition (OCR) is planned for Pro.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. Nothing is installed: the editor runs in the browser.
Can I undo changes or go back to an earlier version?
Every edit is undoable and redoable during the session. If you sign in, the document is saved automatically and each autosave becomes a version you can preview and restore later.
